The Quick Bits
• Consume up to 6x its weight in blood
• Suspected in transmission of 40 diseases
• Bed bugs may transmit Chagas disease
• Biggest impact may be psychological
• Anxiety and the heebie-jeevies
• Problems sleeping
• Heat kills all stages of bed bugs
• Kills eggs
I’m tempted to say that everyone knows bed bugs bite. The bites itch. In most cases, that’s the extent of the physical problems. Yes, in extreme infestations babies and smaller people can lose enough blood to suffer from anemia.
What most people don’t take into consideration are the heebie-jeevies. Emotional and psychological effects can last long after the bed bugs are gone: nervousness, anxiety, and insomnia. Bed bugs commonly come with a side effect of constant worrying and feelings of shame— we can’t let anyone know we have bed bugs or they’ll shun us!
Studies have shown that around half of the people who suffer from a bed bug infestation will experience social isolation and sleep difficulties. Many have reactions like re-experiencing the event through intrusive memories and nightmares, startle responses, and hypervigilance— they think bed bugs are everywhere and always out to get them!
Surviving the pandemic was hard enough on our social spheres. Getting bed bugs can drive people away and socially isolate someone even faster.
Don’t Panic and Act Fast
Every bed bug infestation begins with a couple of bed bugs and multiplies from there. I’ve written before about the speed which a breeding pair of bed bugs can spawn huge numbers. Acting fast does not necessarily mean you won’t need to still heat treat your entire home; it does mean the potential for insects to escape a bed bug heat treatment is much less likely.
The good news is you can safely and economically self-treat your home with heat with an ePro electric heater package... most often for less than you’d pay for a professional treatment.
The logic is pretty simple: the fewer bed bugs you start with, the fewer you can fail to kill. You’ll still find them hiding in all the normal places like mattress tufting, furniture seams, and your bedroom chest of drawers. You’ll still want to heat the rooms until the hardest-to-heat area reaches 140°F.
Our bed bug heater packages come with all the training, equipment, and power cords you will need to begin treating your home or business for bed bugs.
One simple treatment and you’ll be able to sleep tight knowing the bed bugs won’t bite.
